Tikus Island in Bengkulu, Not As Bad As Its Name

Holiday Ayo - For some people, rats are disgusting animals and can cause disease. However, the name of this animal is used for the name of a small island in Bengkulu which is so beautiful, both outside and in the ocean.

The island, which is 10 km from the capital Bengkulu and only has an area of less than 1.5 ha, is called Tikus Island (Rats Island). This island is quite attractive to tourists, both local and foreign because of its beauty.

The island, which is not far from Panjang Island, holds a lot of beauty that not only stuns tourists but also tempts some fauna to make it a home.

Tikus Island is one of the most popular marine tourism destinations in Bengkulu City. This island is a small island that is dominated by coral reefs. On this island, you will be presented with the beauty of coral and various kinds of amazing biological resources.

Although relatively small, on this island you can do a lot of fun activities. You can play in the sand on the beach or swim on the beach. The waves on this beach are quite safe for playing and swimming.

This is because some of the coastal areas on this island are coastal niches surrounded by coral so that the waves are not too high.

Tikus Island is surrounded by extensive coral reefs, which seem to protect the beauty of the island from damage and abrasion caused by large beach waves. Several types of coral in Tikus Island consist of poriter, pocillopora, sarcophito, acroporase, fungi, and montipora.

The coral reefs are also a comfortable home for small fish, making this island a paradise for fishing enthusiasts. You can find crabs, shrimp, and lobsters around the coral reefs. Unfortunately, the beauty of this coral reef is enough to tempt ignorant human hands to damage it, making their function a little disturbed and making this island eroded little by little due to abrasion.

On this island, stands a lighthouse and the building that houses the lighthouse keepers on the east side of the island. Unfortunately, due to the abrasion of ocean waves, there were only five buildings left, now only two remain, while the other three were destroyed. This lighthouse has been moved more than twice to anticipate the destruction of the lighthouse due to abrasion.

Even so, the beauty of this island is still a pity to miss, not only the marine life that fascinates you, but the natural scenery with the clear blue color of the sea is also able to hypnotize you. Coral reefs in the sea, you can clearly see from the surface. So for those of you who don't want to dive, you can enjoy this natural beauty.

While on the island, you can see a variety of plants such as hibiscus trees, ketapang, coconut, and nyamplung. You can see the beauty of the fauna with several types of birds such as black storks, sea pigeons, rice pecuk birds and thief hooves.

How to Get There

Of course, to get to this island, you have to use water transportation tools such as speed boats or fishing boats. You can ride from Jakat Beach, Tapak Paderi Beach, or from Baai Island Harbor.

If from Jakat beach, the travel time is approximately 60 minutes, from Tapak Paderi beach approximately 30 minutes and from Palabuhan Pulau Baai it is approximately 40 minutes. Meanwhile, to get to the three-port spots you can use any vehicle, public or private.
