Learning about Sunda Culture in Sindang Barang Cultural Village

Sindang Barang Cultural Village is a Sundanese traditional village located in Pasir Eurih, Taman Sari, Bogor. According to the ancient script Babad Padjajaran, this village has existed since the 11th century.
Sindang Barang Cultural Village is believed to have been a kingdom of Prabu Siliwangi and its capital was Kutabarang. It was a home of one of Prabu Siliwangi’s wives, Dewi Kentring Manik Mayang Sunda. Today, it becomes a cultural area meant to preserve the local and ancient traditions.
If you visit Sindang Barang Cultural Village, you will learn more about Sundanese culture and traditional arts, like Jaipong dance or Silat Cimande martial art. There are also some traditional games you can learn to play, like egrang, dampi, and bakiak.
At Sindang Barang Cultural Village, tourists can see 20 traditional buildings, made precisely to look like the ones in the past. Among them are Imah Gede, which is the house of the village head and a place to accommodate guests. There are also Saung Talu, which is a large stage for performances, Leuit or granary, Bale Pesanggrahan or guest house, and Bale Petirtaan, which is water springs.
In Sindang Barang Cultural Village, there is a Sundanese Traditions Learning Program, which consists of several activities. There is an activity called sono ka lembur, in which tourists learn about Sundanese history, traditional buildings, and traditional games.
There is also an activity called sawengi, in which tourists can stay for a few days in the village to experience what it feels like to live like Sundanese people, following every day activities of the villagers. If you are lucky, you get to see some traditional ceremonies like serentaun, neteupken, pabeasan, and many others.
