The hibualamo house, although it looks more modern, is actually the oldest type of house in Maluku which is believed to have existed for hundreds of years. The naming of the hibualamo house itself is taken from the words 'hibua' which means house and 'lamo' which means big.

Unlike the previous two traditional Maluku houses, this house has walls like a modern house, with its characteristic walls made of brick and cement. With a very traditional roof resembling a boat. The colors used in the hibualamo house must consist of five colors, namely red, black, gold, yellow, and white only.

The construction of the upper house resembling a boat reflects the life of the Tobelo tribe, most of whom are fishermen and sailors. In the octagonal shape and the four entrances themselves then show the symbols of the cardinal directions and the use of four colors also has its own meaning, including:

• The red color reflects the tenacity of the struggle
• Yellow color reflects wealth and intelligence
• Black color that reflects solidarity
• White color reflects purity.

The use of the Maluku traditional house itself is mostly used as a house inhabited by a large family, although it is often also used as a gathering place for deliberation in resolving problems with customary rules.
