Creative Economy Can Be a Solution for Youth Jobs in the Future

Holiday Ayo - Many young people are now starting to be involved in the creative economy sector and some of them are involved in creative social enterprises. In this way, it is hoped that it will be able to answer the work needs of young people in the future.
Head of Arts and Creative Industries of British Council Indonesia, Camelia Harahap said, "Creative social enterprises also help to achieve inclusion, particularly with regard to the creation of decent work for all". According to her, social-creative efforts can create jobs for young people, women, and people with disabilities faster than other sectors.
"Many social-creative efforts in Indonesia led by young people tend to focus on realizing the SDGs, especially the 8th SDGs, namely creating decent jobs," Camelia said in her statement, Monday (20/6).
Meanwhile, Narasi Chief Creative Officer Jovial da Lopez said, creator content can also be a solution for young people's work in the future. He said, Through the SkinnyIndonesian24 channel, Jovial and his sister Andovi created a lot of content that introduced Indonesian culture to a global audience.
"If you are a content creator, create content that resonates with you. Since childhood, I have been exposed to promoting Indonesia wherever I go. This passion seems to still linger when we created this Youtube channel, but we are trying to modernize it," said Jovial.
To note, the 4th Y20 Pre-KTT produced the Manokwari Message, a document containing a moral message regarding youth diversity and inclusion. A total of 24 moral messages are listed in the Manokwari Message.
These points are grouped under five sub-themes, inclusive education, creative economy, culture and tolerance, youth leadership and community engagement, and technology and digital access. In inclusive education, for example, the Manokwari Message encourages overall equity in the education system for all.
This document also emphasizes the importance of ensuring adequate infrastructure and facilities for persons with disabilities and those living in disadvantaged areas. Meanwhile, regarding the creative economy, the government, the private sector, and local communities (indigenous people) also need to work together to support young people's businesses, especially small and medium scale ones.
Manokwari's message and encourage the application of noble values, youth activities related to cultural preservation. Through the Manokwari Message, Y20 also encourages the awareness of young people about the importance of participation and political literacy. As well as ensuring equal opportunities to develop leadership potential in vulnerable groups through capacity building in formal and informal institutions.
