The Price Reaches Billions of Rupiah, these are the Most Valuable Sneakers in the World

Holiday Ayo - For some people, sneakers are a very valuable item. Especially if the sneakers are a limited collaboration edition.

Currently, a ranking of the most valuable sneaker investments from discount code site DealA found several pairs of the iconic Nike shoe on resale site StockX clocked in nearly 150,000 percent increase from their original retail price. The price of these sneakers has now reached billions of rupiah.

At the top of the list, organized by how much the shoe costs now rather than its original retail price is the Nike Dunk SB Low Paris, a limited edition version of the Nike basketball shoe first launched in 2003.

About 200 pairs were ever produced, and each pair of shoes features cutouts from art by the late French expressionist painter Bernard Buffet.

The sneakers were immediately sold out after being released almost two decades ago. In 2021, a pair of sneakers sold for more than $130,000 in the UK, according to HypeBeast.

Citing CNBC International, these sneakers initially sold for US$60 or the equivalent of IDR 890,000 (at the current exchange rate). The lowest asking price DealA found, offered by retailers on StockX, was $89,691. That is a return on investment of 149.385 percent.

In second place are the 1985 Jordan 1 OG Bred sneakers, which the website describes as “the holy grail for sneakerheads.” These black-and-red shoes are part of the first product line in Michael Jordan's multi-decade partnership with Nike.

On StockX, DealA found the lowest asking price for a classic sneaker that originally retailed for $65, now $94,675. That's up 145,554 percent from its original price.

A few pairs of authentic Jordan shoes are even more valuable. In 2020, a worn pair of sneakers, signed by Jordan sold for $560,000 at auction. The ranking is dominated by Nike sneakers, reflecting the Beaverton, Oregon-based company's close relationship with basketball.

Nike and its Air Jordan label helped fuel the emergence of sneakerheads culture to such an extent that the DealA ranking didn't feature another brand up to 34th on the list.

The ASICS Gel-Lyte III Ronnie Fieg Salmon Toe is ranked 34th. Launched in 2011, the ASICS sneakers are the first shoes released in partnership with popular streetwear brand KITH.

If you got a pair of original Nike Jordans for $65 in 1985 and kept them in excellent condition for decades, they would cost a fortune today.
