The History of the Sphinx Statue, with a Human Head and a Lion's Body, Turns Out to Have Been Buried Because of This

Holiday Ayo - Maybe some people are already familiar when they hear of the Sphinx Statue. The Sphinx is a statue with a human head and a lion's body.

This Sphinx statue is located in Egypt and is a symbol of the figure of a Pharaoh who has a mighty body like a lion and a smart mind like a human.

The Sphinx statue is one of the favorite tourist attractions to visit for local and foreign tourists in the Land of the Egyptian Pyramids.

The Sphinx is located on the Giza Plateau area on the west bank of the Nile near Cairo.

The Sphinx statue is the largest statue in the world made from a single stone. This statue is believed to have been built during the ancient Egyptian civilization in 3 BC.

In general, the Sphinx is actually a mythological creature with a fusion of a lion's body and a human head that often appears in Egyptian and Greek art and legends.

The Sphinx in ancient Egyptian society was believed to act as a spiritual guardian who protected humans from evil spirits and against darkness.

The Sphinx or also called the Great Sphinx of Giza was originally buried in the sand. For thousands of years, only his head and shoulders were visible.

In 1817 a Genoese adventurer named Captain Giovanni Battista Caviglia attempted to dig up the Sphinx with 160 other men.

However, this did not produce results, because the sand easily collapsed and returned to the holes they had dug.

Finally in 1930 an Egyptian archaeologist named Selim Hassan succeeded in freeing the Sphinx from the pile of sand that had covered its beauty.

The Sphinx statue is 73 meters long and 20 meters high. The Great Sphinx of Giza is said to be the largest sculptural statue in the world.

This monument is not made of an arrangement of small stones, but the result of carvings on an extraordinarily large limestone.

A study found traces of paint on this statue and indicated that the Sphinx had previously been painted.

The location of the Sphinx Statue is very close to the three great pyramids, namely the Great Pyramid of Khufu, the Pyramid of Khafre and the Pyramid of Menkaura.

Researchers who have conducted research on the Sphinx Statue estimate that the age of this lion-shaped statue with a human head is around 4,500 years.

According to some sources, this statue was built for King Khafre who lived around 2603-2578 BC.
