Holiday Ayo - Important! Passport Lost While Abroad, Do This

Traveling abroad can be fun, but it can be messy if you lose your passport there. In fact, these documents are very important for foreign tourists who are visiting a country.

If that happens, the first thing to do is calm down, you need to clear your mind and not panic in order to find a way out of the problem.

The following are tips that you need to pay attention to if your passport is lost abroad, cited from CNN Indonesia:

1. Report Police

You can immediately go to the nearest police station to report your lost passport, whether it was lost because it was left behind or stolen. The police will usually give you a form that you must fill out completely based on your personal data. You also have to tell the chronology of the disappearance of the passport.

2. Contact and visit the Indonesian Embassy/Consulate General

After reporting to the police station and filling in complete data, you can contact the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI). While at the police station, you can also contact the Indonesian Embassy. Then go to the Embassy.

The Indonesian Embassy will provide a Passport Like Travel Letter (SPLP), which functions as a temporary passport for those of you who lose your passport. To get the SPLP you must meet the requirements requested by the Indonesian Embassy.

The requirements include, among other things, an ID card, birth certificate, marriage certificate, and family card. Also submit a certificate of loss from the police station where you previously reported. The third is a copy or photocopy of the passport if any. Fourth is the SPLP application form which has been filled out and signed.

Then the fifth, include two passport-sized photographs with a light colored background. Finally, paying the cost of making SPLP, which in some countries is set at USD 5 or around Rp. 55 thousand.

When you go to the Indonesian Embassy, you need to bring all these requirements for the SPLP application. The process depends on the Indonesian Embassy, it could take a day to complete, it could also take several weeks. The SPLP issuance process will take a long time if travelers cannot show their identity cards and citizenship status.

3. Apply for a New Passport

After obtaining the SPLP from the Indonesian Embassy and being able to stay on vacation in your destination country, when you arrive again in Indonesia, your lost passport must be reported immediately to the nearest Immigration office. You can all take care of your new passport.

4. Need to self-report

As a note for those of you who visit a country for a period of a week, it is better when you arrive at the destination country, immediately report yourself. If you report yourself to the Indonesian Embassy, then it can make it easier for Indonesian representatives in your destination country to anticipate unwanted things such as losing your passport. Making SPLP will be easier if you report yourself to the Indonesian Embassy.

In addition, if you are affected by an accident in your destination country, the local Indonesian Embassy can provide assistance or contact your family in the country. When you report to the Indonesian Embassy, you only need to show your passport along with two passport-sized photos with a light color background.

Then you fill out and sign the form. The local embassy officer will sign the Self-Report file on your passport and this service is free of charge or free.
