1. La Rinconada, Peru

This place is located at an altitude of 16,732 feet above sea level. Not many people can come here, even people from local areas struggle to survive in the cold climate which often makes it difficult for many people to breathe.

The weather here hits freezing almost all year round and the only way to get in and out of town is via icy roads that are almost inaccessible to even trucks. Therefore, it is not surprising that La Rinconada is also known as the saddest city in the world.

2. Ittoqqortoormiit, Green Land

Green Land is known as an area that is quite difficult to visit. Because, reaching your destination in this area is an adventure in itself. On the way to Green Land, icebergs in the sea will usually block ships' access to the city for about nine months of the year.

Nevertheless, over the years, Ittoqqortoormiit has emerged as a leading tourist destination for wildlife enthusiasts and cultural explorers of Northeastern Greenland. With a population of around 450 people, the main sources of income for local residents here are tourism and hunting.

3. Okunoshima, Japan

Known as "Rabbit Island", this island in Japan was once home to a chemical weapons factory, you know, superfriends. However, now this island is better known as the home of charming wild rabbits. 

The island's popularity caught people's attention several years ago, when a YouTube video of a woman running around with hundreds of adorable rabbits appeared and went viral. Since then, Okunoshima has been on many tourists' bucket lists.

4. Niue

Niue is one of the most challenging destinations to visit. The reason, of course, is its remote location in the middle of the South Pacific at a distance of around 1500-plus miles from New Zealand. 

Most of the tourists who visit this place come from Australia and New Zealand. For them, this place is worth a visit as it offers many exciting tours, from whale watching, white sand beaches, caves and snorkeling opportunities galore.

5. Kerguelen Islands, South Indian Ocean

Located approximately 2,051 miles away from any kind of civilization, the islands in the Kerguelen Islands basically have no native inhabitants. In fact, this location, located in the South Indian Ocean, is permanently occupied by around 50-100 French scientists, researchers and engineers throughout the year. 

The main island is covered with vast glaciers, which are surrounded by 300 deserted satellite islands. The islands are so remote that even if there were an airport, the extreme cold climate combined with icy terrain would make it difficult to reach. Generally, one can only reach this island by boat for 10 days.
