South Korea Officially Participates in Building the Jakarta MRT Project

Holiday Ayo - South Korea is participating in the Phase 4 Jakarta MRT development project across Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan. This was marked by the signing of the MoU between the Indonesian government and the South Korean government.
The signing of the memorandum of understanding was attended by the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia Budi Karya Sumadi, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation of South Korea Won Hee-Ryong, the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea Gandi Sulistiyanto, and the Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono.
As cited from money.kompas.com, Minister of Transportation Budi explained that the memorandum of understanding signed with South Korea was a follow-up to the talks at the 28th ASEAN Transport Minister Meeting which was held on 16-17 October 2022 in Bali.
In the bilateral meeting, he said, South Korea expressed its interest in participating in building the MRT Jakarta Phase 4 with the Fatmawati-Kampung Rambutan crossing.
"The two countries will continue to increase cooperation not only in the railway sector, but also in the land, sea and air sectors," Budi said, Monday (14/11).
Budi said Indonesia and South Korea have close relations. The two countries have intensively opened various opportunities for cooperation, including in the transportation sector. He revealed that he had made a working visit to South Korea in June 2022 to open up opportunities for cooperation with the South Korean government.
"I express my gratitude and appreciation to South Korea, finally today the two countries have reached a mutual understanding by signing the MoU," he said.
The Minister of Transportation hopes that the MoU with South Korea will be the first step to accelerating the development of MRT in Jakarta, which can be a solution to reduce congestion and also as an environmentally friendly mode of public transportation, so as to reduce pollution and improve clean air quality.
"The two countries will continue to increase cooperation not only in the railway sector, but also in the land, sea and air sectors," said the Minister of Transportation.
