Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Local Creators Reject the Discourse on Prohibiting Social Commerce

Holiday Ayo - The discourse on separating the functions of social media (social media) and e-commerce has received opposition from micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local creators.

The reason is, they have been relying on social commerce for their livelihoods.

According to tribunnews.com, one of the local MSMEs who expressed their disappointment with the government's discourse on banning social commerce platforms was a husband and wife couple who own the local brand Floral. id in Bogor, Resya Mawaranti and Dino Angga Ramadani.

They argue that the government should support and provide education on how to maximize social commerce for sales platforms, not change regulations unnecessarily.

“Since the pandemic, I joined TikTok Shop because I often heard the government's advice saying 'if MSMEs want to advance in class, they must master digitalization'. Therefore, when TikTok Shop cannot be used as a sales platform, I call it a setback," said Dino, who admitted building his business with his wife since they were still dating on campus.

The business they managed in 2017 initially did not produce their own goods, starting from a fashion reseller business.

When the pandemic occurred, Dino and Resya came up with the idea of producing their own masks, which many people needed at that time.

The masks they sell are very affordable, so the demand is quite high and they also have resellers, most of whom are people affected by the pandemic, such as employees who have been laid off, so they really need help in earning an income.

They started an online business by selling on Instagram and WhatsApp. However, said Resya, the tendency for consumers to cancel purchases is very large because they have to switch applications.

Then they joined the TikTok Shop and brought their sales to up to 1 million products on social commerce. Until now, Floral mask resellers have remained loyal even though they returned to the fashion business after the pandemic.

Currently, Floral has around 800 resellers spread throughout Indonesia, which makes Floral increasingly known to the public, especially the younger generation.

From only 35 employees, they now employ 165 employees, all of whom are residents of Jasinga, Bogor and surrounding areas.

Apart from being empowered to sew and make fashion products, they are also taught to be independent by selling through social commerce.
