50 Richest People in Indonesia 2023

Holiday Ayo - According to Forbes Forbes released its list of Indonesia's richest people 2023. Based on the latest Forbes list, the Hartono brothers, Robert Budi Hartono and Michael Bambang Hartono remained in first place, although their collective wealth grew slightly to US$48 billion or around IDR 745 trillion.

Meanwhile, the most striking jump occurred in Prajogo Pangestu, which recorded the largest gain this year, both in dollars and percentage terms.

Prajogo himself experienced an increase in wealth of more than eight times, to US$43.7 billion from US$5.1 billion last year, or currently has total wealth of around IDR 678 trillion.

This made him climb five places to second place for the first time. Meanwhile, the petrochemical and energy king has made huge profits by listing his two companies, geothermal energy producer, Barito Renewables Energy and coal miner, Petrindo Jaya Kreasi.

As a result of being overtaken by Pangestu, mining conglomerate Low Tuck Kwong is now in third position. However, he has doubled his wealth to US$27.2 billion or around IDR 422 trillion as his Bayan Resources, Indonesia's third largest coal producer, benefited from increased sales.

On the other hand, with Indonesia's ambition to build an electric vehicle supply chain, Lim Hariyanto Wijaya Sarwono conducted an IPO of mining company Trimegah Bangun Persada or Harita Nickel.

His wealth jumped more than fourfold to US$4.8 billion or around IDR74.5 trillion, rising 27 places to 9th position.

Forbes revealed that even though Indonesia was experiencing the impact of a slowdown in exports, the benchmark index decreased by 1.5% after the last decline.

However, a number of new listings, mainly from energy and mining companies, generated large profits. Stock listing profits then pushed four new entrants onto the list.

As a result of the IPO of the copper and gold mining company Amman Mineral International, which is the largest IPO in Indonesia throughout 2023, it produced three newcomers, namely the main shareholder.

They are president commissioner and former investment banker Agoes Projosasmito, main director Alexander Ramlie, and oil and gas tycoon Hilmi Panigoro.

Then, Cinema XXI, which listed its shares on the stock exchange, made one of the founders, Benny Suherman, a billionaire.

Two of the founders have also passed away, namely the founder of the pharmaceutical company Kalbe Farma, Boenjamin Setiawan and the founder of the packaging paper manufacturer Fajar Surya Wisesa, who have been replaced by their heirs on this list.

There are three people who are also back on this list, including the one who controls and runs Ace Hardware Indonesia, the retail network licensee from the United States, Kuncoro Wibowo.

It is also known that seven people resigned, including banker Jerry Ng, because they were affected by the fall in Bank Jago shares due to easing investor sentiment towards digital banks.

As for this list, the minimum net worth to qualify is US$940 million or around IDR 14.5 trillion, up from US$885 million in 2022.
