Yadnya Kasada Ritual at the Foot of Mount Bromo

Holiday Ayo - Yadnya Kasada is a ritual tradition carried out by the Tengger Community at Pura Poten and Mount Bromo, Probolinggo.

This tradition is a special tourist attraction for local and foreign countries who are enjoying adventures on Mount Bromo.



In this procession, residents provide various crops and offerings in the crater of Mount Bromo. The Tengger tribe has a belief that, through this ritual, they beg to avoid calamity and always be given prosperity by the ancestors.

Yadnya Kasada comes from Sanskrit, which means to worship, offer or sacrifice. Yadnya Kasada can be interpreted as a sacred sacrifice that is held sincerely by Hinduism in certain months in the Hindu-Javanese calendar system.

The Great Hall of Ngadisari Village is the starting point for the Yadnya Kasada procession. The various stages of the ritual begin at 7 pm. Then at midnight, various offerings began to be paraded towards Luhur Poten Temple in the sea of sand just below the foot of Mount Bromo.



The shamans of the Tengger Tribe, community leaders, and residents of the Tengger Tribe offer prayers for safety, blessing, and prosperity. Towards the early hours of the morning, offerings began to be carried up into the crater of Mount Bromo and thrown into the crater.

Dozens of people scramble for offerings that are thrown into the Bromo crater at the peak of the ritual. The offerings that are floated are the result of the wealth of the Tengger tribe every year. This series of ritual processions is a tourist attraction in Bromo.
