Visit the Beautiful Pariangan Village, One of the Most Picturesque Villages in the World

Holiday Ayo - Pariangan Village, or often called “Nagari Pariangan”, is a village located in Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia.
Although it does not win Indonesia’s Tourism Village Award (ADWI) 2021, 9 years ago, it was one of the top five of Most Picturesque Villages in Travel Budget, an international tourism magazine in New York, USA.
The other four villages listed were Wengen from Switzerland, Eze from France, Niagara on The Lake in Ontario, Canada, and Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic.
Pariangan Village has become popular among the citizens since 2012, as the most beautiful village in Indonesia. This village is located on the slope of a mountain, at the height of 500 to 700 meters above sea level.
If you want to go there, you can drive from Padang City with personal vehicles, or take a bus from there. The ride takes around 3 hours.
Just like most countryside areas, Pariangan Village is not very crowded with houses. The environment is still quite natural and the scenery is really pleasing to the eye. Here, you can see a mountain, river, rice fields, and corn plantation. The air is cool and refreshing, but not too cold.
The people who live in Pariangan Village maintain the custom and traditions of the Minangkabau Tribe. There are many traditional houses of Minangkabau in this area, which is called “Rumah Gadang”.
These houses had been standing since the colonialism era in Indonesia. Although they are old, they are still strong enough to stand until today. The design and architecture of the houses have such high artistic quality. Many tourists come to take selfies in these traditional houses.
There is a place you should visit when coming to this village and that is Tuo Mosque.
Among all the mosques you can find in West Sumatra, this mosque is the one that still maintains the design based on Minangkabau traditions since long ago.
This mosque is also called Islah Mosque. Not far from it is a public bath called “tapian mandi”. This bath is still used until today, with the baths for men and women being separated.
