Travel to Mount Wudang China, a Karate Kid Filming Site

Holiday Ayo - Fans of Jackie Chan may be familiar with the 2010 film The Karate Kid. The film, which also stars Jaden Smith, took pictures in several locations. One of the scenes in the film where Jackie Chan's character trains Jaden Smith using two bamboo sticks in a lake was shot on Mount Wudang.

Mount Wudang, which is located in Shiyan City, Hubei Province, China, is famous for its ancient building complex which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Mount Wudang is the origin of the martial art of Taichi, also known as Taijiquan which has an interesting view.

While visiting there, tourists can see some Taoist priests practicing Taijiquan and other martial arts such as Xing Yi Quan. But if you prefer to enjoy nature, tourists will be treated to views of 72 hills filled with shady trees.

In addition, tourists can also see 24 ravines and 10 strange rocks. Even so, the area around Mount Wudang is famous for being often covered by clouds. Before visiting, make sure the weather is sunny.

Purple Cloud Palace and Taihe Palace offer a wide variety of Taoist vegetarian dishes. There are also some local snacks that can be found in the Yuxu Palace area.

Currently, Mount Wudang has several ancient building complexes that are still standing strong. An example is the Palace of Harmony. The building complex is located in the southern part of the Tianzhu peak. There, tourists can visit the Golden Palace, Forbidden City, and Gutong Hall.

The Golden Palace is a building that is often visited by tourists. This is because the building was constructed using bronze and stands four meters high.

The building looks more majestic with a combination of views from the forests that are still beautiful around the mountains. Meanwhile, the Grand Purple Cloud Palace was located below the peak of Zhanqi and was the most magnificent and well-preserved Taoist building on Mount Wudang.

The complex includes Dragon and Tiger Hall, Steele Pavilion, and Shifang Hall. There is also the Grand Hall of Purple Cloud Palace which is decorated with blue tiles, as well as blue and yellow carvings on the ceiling.

Purple Cloud Palace has 182 rooms filled with sculptures and paintings of dragons, phoenixes, sun, moon, clouds, lightning, ocean, sky, and other objects. This building was even featured in the Karate Kid movie.

Construction of the ancient building complex began in the Tang Dynasty period (618 – 907). During Emperor Taizong's reign, the Five Dragon Ancestral Temple was built. Meanwhile, during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), 33 buildings including the Yuxu Palace, Grand Purple Cloud Palace, Yuzhen Palace, and Palace of Harmony were built.
