The Beauty of Lake Ranau, the Second Biggest Lake in Sumatra

Holiday Ayo - Cited from goodnewsfromindonesia.id, Lake Ranau is a tourist destination in Lampung, Indonesia. Although it is not as big and popular as Lake Toba, which is the biggest lake on Sumatra Island, it is still just as beautiful.
Lake Ranau is located at the border between West Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, and the Regency of South Ogan Komering Ulu, South Sumatra Province. It is the second biggest lake in Sumatra after Lake Toba. The lake was formed from a great earthquake and volcano eruption, which makes it both a volcanic and tectonic lake.
Lake Ranau is around 125,9 square kilometers wide with an average depth of 175 meters, and a maximum depth of 229 meters. There are shrubs that grow around the lake. From there, you can see Mount Seminung. The water comes from the Warkuk River, which then flows into the Selabung River. There are many kinds of fish that live in this lake like tinfoil barb and Mozambique tilapia so many fishermen come here.
The scenery around Lake Ranau is beautiful and the air is fresh and cool. When you arrive there, you will see many visitors and fishermen who fish at the lake. You can also cook the fish you have caught yourself at the edge of the lake.
Similar to Lake Toba which has Samosir Island in the middle, Lake Ranau also has a small island located in the middle of it. It is called Marisa Island. To get to Marisa Island, you have to rent a boat from the fishermen.
One of the tourist attractions at Lake Ranau is its hot springs. The spring water contains Sulphur so it is good for the skin. Many people come here to bathe in the hot water and relax their bodies.
To get to Lake Ranau, you can drive from Bandar Lampung to Kotabumi and continue to Batu City until you reach the lake. It takes around 6 hours to get there.
Although the road to the lake is quite narrow, four-wheeled vehicles can still pass through, but it will be easier with two-wheeled vehicles.
If you want to stay the night, there are lodgings near Lake Ranau. You can either stay at denizens’ houses or in the lodgings at the edge of the lake. The price ranges from 100 to 150 thousand Rupiah per night.
