The area of this botanical garden is 96 hectares consisting of 18 hectares of protected forest and 78 hectares of permanent production forest. Nowadays, this Botanical Gardens has various collections, namely 1,767 nursery collections, 1,647 non-orchid collections, and 120 orchid collections.

With the complete facility, Kendari Botanical Gardens has the function of plant conservation, research and deserves to be an educational tourism destination.

The location of this garden is in the former sand, stone mining area, and logging location, makes Kendari Botanical Gardens have a high conservation function and environmental service. Since the establishment of the Kendari Botanical Gardens, mining and illegal logging have decreased.
