Pokon, a Toraja Specialty that Only Exists in Traditional Rituals

Holiday Ayo - Toraja is a city located in South Sulawesi. Talking about Toraja, there are many things that we can get in the city which is now known as "the land above the clouds".
If we talk about Toraja, it seems that there will be no end to the story because its beauty is so stunning. In Toraja there are so many tourist attractions, dances and even special foods that we can get if we visit this city.
One of the typical Toraja foods is pokon. Pokon is a snack made from glutinous rice, namely pokon and carier or called black rice. Although the shape is different, they both use glutinous rice as the main ingredient.

Pokon is made from glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. There is no other mixture other than just glutinous rice. However, the times have given the idea of making pokon, which is now mixed with coconut milk to make it more delicious.
This typical Toraja food is usually made when traditional rituals are held, especially during the ma'pasilaga tedong tradition in the Rambu Solo' traditional ritual, where pokon with duku bai is distributed to the people who come to witness the tedong silaga.

The appearance of the pokon is not much different from the lontong, it's just that the size and packaging materials are different. Made from black glutinous rice mixed with grated coconut and then wrapped in bamboo leaves. Pokon delicious eaten together with a glass of hot tea or coffee.
Pokon itself is cooked by steaming using firewood so that it tastes better. Pokon Toraja is always missed because in addition to its delicious taste, the ingredients used are of high quality, Pokon is usually only made during certain ceremonies such as weddings, Ma'Tammu Tedong, and thanksgiving after harvest. Don't be surprised if this food is always a bone of contention and is very famous.
