Holiday Ayo - A Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati, said that the ice on the peak of Mount Jayawijaya, Papua to be extinct in 2025.

“The shrinkage of the Jayawijaya peak, being monitored by the BMKG, is predicted to be extinct by 2025, and it will no longer be at the top of JayaWijaya,” said Dwikorita during a working meeting with Commission V of the DPR at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (21/21), as cited from GoodMorning Papua.

She explained that the condition in the Jayawijaya peak is already worrying. The reason is that there is only 1 percent of the ice in that location.

“And currently the condition is only 1 percent of the ice area at Jaya peak from 200 km3 (square), now only 2 km3 (square),” she said.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, climate change also has an impact on the Jakarta area.

In her opinion, the temperature is increasing, for example in Jakarta in this 100 year period the air temperature has increased by 1 degree Celsius.

“So, this precedes 2030, so it has almost reached 1.5. And also the Jakarta floods in the latest data shows that the frequency of floods has increased in the last decade in accordance with the high intensity of daily rainfall every year,” she continued.
