Ancol Art Market, the Center for Art Development in Jakarta

The Art Market is one of the recreational facilities in the Ancol Dreamland Park complex. The idea of establishing this market emerged in 1975. Since it was inaugurated in 1977, this area has become the oldest art area in Jakarta. This market has grown to become a place for artists, collectors, art connoisseurs, as well as tourists.
Traditional markets in Indonesia are often associated with vegetable or meat traders. It's a different story if you visit the Ancol Art Market. In this market, visitors will not find vegetables or meat.
Since it was officially established this market has become the other side of the tourist area on the north coast of Jakarta. The atmosphere offered is far different from the crowds of amusement parks.
This tourist area occupies an area of not less than 5.2 hectares. Upon entering this area, a unique gate will welcome visitors. This gate is usually decorated according to the theme of the ongoing event. To commemorate a certain day, the decoration of the gate will also be in harmonies, such as Chinese New Year or New Year.
On this land, there are at least 240 stalls rented by artists and collectors. Some function as Geri, but most are studios for artists and craftsmen. Looking at the size of the land, this area could be the largest art studio in Indonesia and even the world.
Most of the works of art that are peddled and exhibited are paintings. Visitors will easily find paintings in various styles and sizes here. If not satisfied, prospective buyers can order according to taste first.
Apart from paintings, other works of art are sculptures and sculptures. This market can be a paradise for collectors of this art. The materials also vary, ranging from wood, stone, to used goods. Each work has its own style.
Not a few visitors also come to buy works of art directly. Generally are foreign tourists who want to bring home souvenirs. This market is not yet fully a destination for art collectors. However, there's nothing wrong with visiting and appreciating, who knows something might catch your eye.

This tourist area is located in Ancol Dreamland Park, precisely on Lodan Timur Street Number 7, Ancol, Pademangan, North Jakarta. Visitors can come by private vehicle or public transportation.
