Pork is one of the foods that are forbidden for consumption by Muslims. Therefore, Muslims must be more careful when choosing or consuming food.

Not all places to eat provide an understanding of whether food is halal or not. Especially if you are abroad where Muslims are a minority.

Apart from the halal logo, Muslims also need to pay attention to the term pork in food products. This term appears in many Western, Chinese, Korean and Japanese food products.

The LPPOM MUI has issued a list of pork terms in the composition of food products via Instagram @lppom_mui. They wrote, "#sobatlppom, these are the terms for the names of pigs in food composition, we need to be more vigilant, OK?"

In its upload, LPPOM MUI issued 24 terms pork in food products. Starting from common terms to rarely known.

The following is a list of pork terms in food products:

1. A general term

There are several terms commonly used in food products. Among these are bacon, ham, pork and lard. For bacon means thinly sliced pork usually used in Western dishes.

Ham is also found in many Western dishes, often added to sandwiches. Ham is the term for the meat on the pork thigh.

Some restaurants issue the term 'No Pork No Lard', pork is the term for pork in cooking, while lard is pork fat or oil. This term is found in some Japanese and Korean restaurants.

2. The term pork in Chinese food

Pork in Chinese is bak. In some Chinese dishes, this term is often used. Examples are meatballs and noodles, but these two dishes have been served in many halal versions.

Besides bak, there is also the term char siu which is a typical Chinese roast pork. This roasted pork dish is generally seasoned with red, which is common in Cantonese cuisine.

Cu nyuk is also a term for pork in Chinese cuisine. It means pork in Khek or Hakka. Whereas in Mandarin, pork is called zhu rou.
