1. Pitjel

From its name and appearance, surely you are familiar with this one food. This petjel is very similar to Pecel in Indonesia. Petjel also consists of several vegetables, namely long beans, bean sprouts, cabbage, vegetables such as kale, which are boiled and then doused with peanut sauce, which is mashed together with chilies. But the taste of the peanut sauce is slightly different from the peanut sauce in Indonesia. However, this Pitjel is liked by the people of Suriname, and suits their tongue. For 1 portion of Petjel you can get around 5 Euros.

The appearance of Saoto is very similar to Soto in Indonesia, consisting of vermicelli, eggs, potatoes, rice and clear broth. Saoto is also a friendly price, only 7 Euros. So, do you know what made Saoto and Soto? usually Surinamese eat saoto together with Bakabana, which is unique fried bananas isn't it.

3. Bakabana (Fried Banana)

Bakabana is one of the favorite snacks for the people of Suriname, but this bakabanan is different from fried bananas in Indonesia, because you can enjoy 1 piece of Bakabana with peanut sauce which is really yummy. Because they like Bakabana, it is not uncommon for Surinamese people to snack on this Bakabana after heavy meals such as Saoto, Rice, and some of the heavy foods they consume.

4. Moxy-alesi

Maksi alesi consists of rice, shrimp, fish, meat, vegetables and chili sauce. So, this maksi alesi is not very similar to Indonesian food that you can find in warteg. Now, for Maksi Alesi, it's also easy for you to find at several depots in Suriname, the price is only around 7 Euros.

5. Goedangan

The latter is Goedangan which consists of a vegetable salad drenched in coconut sauce which is a favorite dessert in Suriname. So in Suriname itself, processed coconut is indeed the yummiest, the taste is savory, salty, sweet, it's the perfect combination when eaten with vegetable salad, guys. So, when you are in Suriname, you really have to try this Surinamese culinary delight!
