Trade War Tensions Ease, Trump and Xi Jinping Finally Meet

Holiday Ayo - US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping met again in a bilateral meeting considered crucial for improving relations between the two world's largest economic powers.

This meeting is expected to defuse trade war tensions between the two countries, which have been escalating recently.

According to Reuters, Thursday (October 30), this meeting is the culmination of Trump's visit to Asia since last weekend.

Trump officially left Washington on Friday evening (October 24) to begin his official trip to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea to discuss various trade deals and other issues.

Trump feels the meeting will be one of his most difficult negotiations yet. However, he is optimistic about reaching a new agreement with Xi to end the tit-for-tat actions between the two countries, ranging from special tariffs to export bans on certain commodities.

"We'll have a very successful meeting, I'm sure. But he's a very tough negotiator," Trump said while shaking hands with Xi.

On the same occasion as they sat down to begin their meeting, Xi told Trump that it was normal for the world's two largest economies to experience friction, as is currently happening.

However, he said the most important thing was how Beijing and Washington, D.C., could strive to be partners and friends, even if they don't always see eye to eye.

"I am willing to continue working with President Trump to build a solid foundation for China-US relations," Xi Jinping said.

The meeting between the two leaders raised high hopes for China and the US to stabilize their relationship, which has recently become increasingly strained, escalating into a trade war.

For months, the two countries have engaged in tit-for-tat tit-for-tat tariffs, export restrictions, and sanctions targeting sectors ranging from high-tech goods to rare earth metals.

Most recently, China and the US imposed special tariffs on foreign vessels entering their ports.
