Tracing One of the Lands on Earth Not Inhabited by Snakes

Holiday Ayo - Snakes don't only target humans, in many cases snakes also target livestock. These reptiles are also classified as having quite a large population and are very easy to find, but did you know that there are several places in the world that are not inhabited by snakes at all.

Reporting from Irish Central, one of the places that is famous for not inhabited by snakes is Ireland.

A legend says that St. Patrick, a legend and saint from Ireland has exorcised all the snakes in the country. However, a study summarized by National Geographic mentions a scientific fact.

According to a study, snakes never existed and lived in Ireland, because no fossils or other records have ever been found that mention snakes once inhabited that place.

During the Ice Ages, Ireland and England were too cold to provide suitable habitat for cold-blooded reptiles such as snakes.

But then, 10 thousand years ago, when the glaciers shifted and land appeared connecting Europe, England and Ireland, allowing the migration of some living things.

Animals that made it to Ireland during this period included the brown bear, lynx and warthog.

Ireland isn't the only place in the world without snakes. In some of these places, there are no native snake species as in Iceland, Greenland, Hawaii, New Zealand, parts of Canada, northern Russia, or, Antarctica.

The only reptile that made it there and filled Ireland was the common lizard.
