The story of Ken Arok, the founder of the Singosari

Holiday Ayo - Kingdom who loves gambling Ken Arok or often written as Ken Angrok in 1222 AD was the founder of the Singosari Kingdom. In the past, Ken Arok ruled as the first king of the Singasari Kingdom or the Tumapel Kingdom with the title Sri Rajasa Bathara Sang Amurwabhumi.
His reign was relatively short, namely for five years, because Ken Arok was killed in 1227 AD. Ken Arok was a figure who came from a simple circle but later managed to become the most powerful ruler in Java.
His life story is very famous because it is filled with adventure, betrayal, and tragedy. Sources about the Singasari Kingdom and Ken Arok can be found from the Pararaton and Negarakertagama books.
According to the Pararaton Book, Ken Arok's origins are not known for certain. Ken Arok was allegedly born in 1182 AD into a poor farming family who lived on the banks of the Brantas River, East Java. His mother was named Ken Ndok, the wife of a duke's assistant in the Kingdom of Kediri named Gajah Para.
Shortly after birth, baby Ken Arok was abandoned by his mother who hoped that her son would have a better life. However, Ken Arok was actually found and raised by a thief named Lembong. Therefore, Ken Arok grew up to become a cunning thief who also committed many crimes.
Apart from his hobby of gambling, little Ken Arok also stole several times. This made Ken Arok expelled from the house either by his adoptive parents.
After being kicked out by his adoptive parents Lembong, little Ken Arok met Bango Samparan. It is said that Bango Samparan is a botoh or gambler from Dusun Karuman. By Bango Samparan small Ken Arok was taken to his gambling arena. But while being raised by Bango Samparan, Ken Arok felt that he could not get along with the children of his stepmother.
This made him choose to leave Karuman and meet Tita, Sahaja's daughter, the head of Sagenggeng Village. Little Ken Arok ended up living in Janggan's house, head of Sagenggeng Village. It is said that one night, Ken Arok was caught stealing ripe guava.
Then by Janggan, Ken Arok was kicked out of the house and had to sleep in a bush. It is said that it was while sleeping that Ken Arok's body emitted a ray of light that Janggan saw. As a result, Janggan, who had previously been furious with Ken Arok, turned to love him. Ken Arok was asked by Janggan to return to his house.
