The Reason Why Most Airplanes Are White

Holiday Ayo - Airplane users know that most commercial airplanes are white, do you often observe this? There are actually hidden facts on the plane.
Have you ever wondered why most airplanes are painted white? There is a scientific reason why airplane paint is predominantly white. Cited from CNN Indonesia, Here are 5 scientific reasons why most airplanes are painted white, as reported by aircraftnerds.com,
1. Thermal Gain
Scientifically, objects that are painted white cannot absorb any color (any wavelength of light) so they reflect all colors (All wavelengths of light) and we see that color as white. White is actually a mixture of all colors.
Light is an electromagnetic wave with a wavelength of 400 - 700 nm (nanometers).
When an airplane is painted in a color other than white, it absorbs light (wavelength) of that color and converts the absorbed light energy into heat energy. This will heat the fuselage.
So, when an airplane is painted white, it will reflect all wavelengths of light and therefore will not absorb any light and that will result in it not overheating. The white color helps to cool the plane faster when the plane is parked on hot ground.
2. Visibility Factor

When a plane crashes, it's easier to spot it if it's white. Because white is easily visible on the ground from the sky, even at night.
3. Airframe Inspection
It's easier to spot dents or cracks in white than any other color. Therefore, aircraft maintenance engineers can easily identify defects in the fuselage. Also, no color is lighter than white, because all colors are darker than white.
So if there is a leak in the fuel it will form a stain on the body of the aircraft, and can be detected from the location of the stain. Also if any corrosion occurs on any part of the fuselage it can be easily detected by visual inspection.
4. White Color Doesn't Fade
Other colors fade when exposed to UV rays (Ultra Violet rays) present in sunlight. Because UV rays are able to break the bonds that exist in paints that absorb certain color wavelengths.
As mentioned earlier, white does not absorb any color wavelengths. Therefore, white color is less affected by UV rays. While the white gets dull, it still looks better than any color that fades away!
5. Logo Can Be Seen Easily on White
Again, all colors are darker than white. Any dark color can be seen easily with white. Therefore, it is easy to identify the company name and logo printed on the plane.
