Leaked to Media, Chinese TV Demands Removal of Xi-Putin Video of Eternal Life Conversation

Holiday Ayo - A conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping about a longer life has been leaked.

According to CNA on Saturday (September 6), the four-minute video contains a leaked recording of a conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of a military parade in Beijing commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The recording originated from China Central Television (CCTV) and was then licensed to Reuters, before being edited into a four-minute clip and distributed to more than 1,000 global media outlets.

CCTV Removal Request: Reuters removed the video from its official website on Friday (September 5) and issued a "destruction" order to its media clients after receiving a written request from CCTV's lawyers.

The letter stated that Reuters had exceeded the terms of its licensing agreement. CCTV's lawyers also criticized the "editorial treatment" of the material, though without further details.

“The editorial handling of this material has resulted in a clearly misleading representation of the facts and statements contained in the licensed broadcast," He Danning, CCTV News Agency's legal supervisor, wrote in a letter to Reuters.

Reuters asserted that the withdrawal was made because it no longer had legal permission to publish the copyrighted material.

"We stand by the accuracy of what we publish," Reuters said in a statement.

“We have carefully reviewed the published footage and have found no reason to believe that Reuters' long-standing commitment to accurate and impartial journalism has been compromised."

The conversation about immortality: The recording that circulated earlier showed Xi and Putin discussing science and the future of humanity.

In the conversation, the two men touched on the possibility of humans living to 150 years old, a notion that has sparked global public interest.

The four-minute clip quickly spread through international television stations and social media before being removed from official distribution.

Representatives from CCTV, China Global Television Network, and the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., have not yet commented on the request to remove the video.
