American Airlines Are Now More Strict Against Passenger Personal Effects

Holiday Ayo - Air travel costs more. Even passengers need to pay additional fees when they have to pay for baggage that exceeds capacity.
Recently, social media gave some tips to avoid inflated baggage fees. Apparently airlines are starting to take a more strict approach to what they allow on board. Many reported that their luggage was refused by officers.
As cited from Republika.co.id, a professional speaker from Los Angeles, United States, Sergio Diaz, said that the airline American Airlines ordered him to pay US$50. This is because he brought a projector to be used for presentations.
Although Diaz said the projector was no bigger than a laptop, the airline employee said it was too big and would not fit under the seat.
"I think it will be fine," he said.
A similar situation occurred with a passenger who uploaded on his Tiktok account. He claimed the airline tried to make him pay $99 for his personal effects.
In the viral video, user @dejatheexplorer shows that his suitcase from Take Off Luggage fits the dimensions of a personal item check by Frontier Airlines airline staff.
"They can't charge me if they find it fits," he says in the video.
In the comments column, other travelers said they had experienced the same problem. Officers nearly made the traveler pay $100 for personal effects, citing the small backpack protruding slightly in the front pocket. Then there are several other comments who also experienced the same thing.
Actually, airlines have different sizing rules for personal items. Most airlines allow passengers to bring personal items on board free of charge, to be stored under their front seats for the duration of the flight. But there is no set standard for the size of this bag.
As it turns out, most of the major airlines in the US have different, and sometimes confusing, definitions when it comes to personal effects.
According to Clever Journey, American Airlines and Frontier Airlines limit the size of a passenger's personal item to 18 x 14 x 8 inches, while United Airlines limits it to 17 x 10 x 9 inches, and Southwest Airlines limits anything larger than 16.25 x 13, 5 x 8 inches.
